By Carrie Pearle Hawthorne (Ruby’s Granddaughter) Preserving my grandmother’s website is important to me because it reflects the incredible impact she had on so many people. What started as her personal passion grew into a resource that gave numerous people meaningful insights into their genealogy, helping them understand where they came from and giving them a sense of connection to their past. Her dedication turned family histories into living stories, and those stories touched many people. Growing up, she shared these same kinds of stories with me. Countless accounts of her childhood, family’s past, the lives they led and her career as an incredible teacher. Those conversations didn’t just entertain me but shaped who I am. Her passion for the past, desire to share it and her enthusiasm of being a teacher sparked my own, inspiring me to pursue a university degree in education with a major in history. My grandmother showed me how powerful it can be to preserve the past and to help others discover their own. I always looked forward to sitting with her and listening, knowing that each story and conversation carried wisdom, warmth, and a piece of family legacy. By maintaining her website, I hope to ensure that others can experience the same sense of wonder, connection, and inspiration that she gave me. It’s a way of honoring her life’s work, keeping her voice alive while she is no longer with us so future generations can continue to learn from it for years to come. |
